Why CarBudgetFit

One honest question: can you really afford this car?

  • Nobody pays us

No car maker, dealer or car-selling site pays us. We don't earn a commission when you open a listing, and there are no sponsored cars.

  • Picks based on data, not deals

"Our pick" scores every brand the same way: Consumer Reports reliability, how well the car holds its value, how popular it is and how much of your budget it leaves free.

  • The whole monthly cost, not just the payment

Most car sites stop at the loan payment. We add insurance, gas or charging, and maintenance and repairs, then check the total against your budget.

Affording the payment isn't the same as affording the car.

A new Toyota RAV4 in Ontario, for example:

  • Loan payment $910
  • Insurance $200
  • Gas $120
  • Upkeep $76

Real cost: $1,306 a month, which is $396 more than the payment.

  • Straight answers

If nothing fits your budget, we say so and show the closest option. Every model page also lists its crash-test award and recall links.

  • No sign-up, no sales calls

We never ask for your name, email or phone number, so no dealer will call you. Your answers are saved only in your own browser and never sent to us.

How we estimate, for Canada: prices are in Canadian dollars and include freight and PDI. The 59 most popular models use their real Canadian starting prices (automaker and dealer pricing, November 2026), raised for mid-level or top trims; other models are estimated from their US price using the typical Canada/US gap for their type. Used prices assume a 3-year-old car. Sales tax comes from your province (GST, HST, PST or QST), including BC's higher PST on pricier vehicles, with 13% used until you add a postal code. Insurance starts from an average for each type of car and is adjusted to your province (GISA, ICBC, MPI and Quebec GAA figures; Saskatchewan and the territories estimated). Upkeep includes about $20 a month for winter tires. New EVs get the federal $5,000 rebate when they qualify (price with fees up to $50,000), plus Quebec's $2,000. Popularity uses 2025 Canadian sales (DesRosiers). Loan rates are typical Canadian rates for each credit level (Finder.ca, November 2026) unless you enter your own. Gas defaults to $1.79 a litre, the national average on November 3, 2026. Your real numbers will vary with trim, location and driving record, so get an insurance quote and a loan pre-approval before you shop.
